Although dental injuries and dental emergencies are often distressing for both children and parents, they are also extremely common. Approximately one-third of children have experienced some type of dental trauma, and more have experienced a dental emergency.
There are two peak risk periods for dental trauma the first being toddler-hood (18-40 months) when environmental exploration begins, and the second being the pre-adolescent/adolescent period, when sporting injuries become commonplace.

Dr. Rachel Dai is dual board-certified! She is a diplomate of both American Board of Pediatric Dentistry and American Board of Dental Sleep Medicine. She earned her Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degree from McGill University, Canada, with the honor of being awarded the Dr. Janet Griffin-Merth Scholarship in Dentistry for her academic and clinical achievements. She finished her GPR residency at Harvard School of Dental Medicine and received her certificate in pediatric dentistry and a master of Science in Dentistry (MSD) from the University of Texas at Houston. She is also a certified biological dentist and has extensive experience in orthodontics and esthetic dentistry.

Dr. Matthews received his Doctorate of Dental Surgery (DDS) from the University of Texas, where he also completed a Pediatric Dental Specialist Program. He then continued his education at Louisiana State University, completing a pediatric postdoctoral program in orthodontics. Dr. Matthews is an esteemed member of many pediatric dental and orthodontic communities and is a leading provider of pediatric orthodontic care.

Dr. Sherrick attended Southern Methodist University, earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering. He furthered his education by earning his dental degree at The University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio. Blake served as Chief Resident while completing his specialty in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics at Roseman University while also earning a Master’s Degree in Business Administration.
