WAKE UP TO SOLVING CHILDREN’S SLEEP ISSUES

Try Pediatric Airway Dentistry in Spring

It might seem strange to think that the health, mental, or behavioral issues your little one might be exhibiting at home or school could be related to how they breathe when they’re asleep.
It’s important to understand that sleep apnea or sleep-disordered breathing (SDB) in children is a real underlying issue and condition that often gives rise to many childhood issues.
The truth is that children’s sleep issues are becoming far more prevalent among our youth, and far too many parents and healthcare providers are unaware of the dire consequences.
That’s why you need pediatric airway dentistry in Spring.

WHAT IS SLEEP APNEA AND AIRWAY DENTISTRY?

From your child to the next, sleep apnea can vary depending on how their airway is obstructed. This leads to unhealthy snoring, mouth breathing, and restless sleep, among other significant health and even mental disorders. Sleep apnea has to do with how the airway has developed and if it’s detrimental to how your child breathes, both at night and during the day. We can use pediatric airway dentistry in Spring to correct specific developmental issues by bringing the upper and lower jaws forward while making them wider to help open the airway in your growing kiddo.

SEEING THE SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS

In helping to solve children’s sleep issues, we first need to educate parents about what are some of the signs and symptoms associated with sleep apnea or SDB, including:

MYOFUNCTIONAL THERAPY

One of the treatment options that the team at Matthews & Dai Pediatric Dentistry & Orthodontics may recommend is myofunctional therapy. Similar to getting physical therapy, our team may identify “exercises” for your child to do to correct muscle movement in their mouth or tongue. These routines will help improve your child’s ability to chew & swallow, as well as help them with breathing and talking. Our team will evaluate your child’s specific needs, and see what therapy’s may be beneficial!

LIP/TONGUE TIE TREATMENTS

One of the most painful and disruptive airway issues that can occur post-pregnancy is tongue and lip ties. They create extreme discomfort for both mother and child while making it difficult for the child to breathe, as well as feed properly, and causing overall frustration for all. We use high-tech laser therapy to fix these ailments and help you heal.
